D (age 4)'s words: Can we watch "Chew and Swallow"?

He means: Can we watch "Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs"?

The girls were giggling about something and I asked what it was...

K (age 8): A few weeks ago, the Sunday School teacher was talking about how God leads His people...

T (age 6): and I raised my hand and said, "Like a GPS?"

K (age 8), T (age 6) and D (age 4) were excited/shocked by all of the steam on the stove. I had two pots of water boiling for the eggs they were going to dye. They decided to "fan" the steam with lids.

I went over and turned on the vent. About this time Eric offered to go in the basement with the kids. The girls hopped down to head downstairs, but D wouldn't go..."Who is going to fan all of this steam?"

It was so cute and innocent and he really believed that he needed to be there. Cracked me up!

I was reading chapter 2 of "Homer Price" to my older three. The chapter is about a comic book superhero. The superhero is so tough that bullets just bounce off of him...

K: Nothing kills the superhero.

D: They should use spikes.

THAT cracked us all up. Where on earth does my little boy get stuff like this???

I have been playing, "Guess Who" with D. He loves this game, but he asks everything in the negative...which makes it a bit tougher to think about.

D: Does your person not have brown hair?

D: Does your person not have glasses?

This method of play drives me mad!

I have been listening to the Glee soundtracks. I don't like the show, but the CD's are a nice mix of music and kinda fun in the car.

K got a new stuffed bunny. She was selecting a name and stated, "I think I'll name her Gold digger."

Uh....maybe we'll stop listening to track 3...

So I got season 2 this week and really enjoy it. We turned it off at dinnertime and T said, "Is that Glee?" I told her it was. She responded, "I really like the red Glee one. I like the red Glee CD with the Jesus songs on it."

Hmmmmm....she was referring to the Steve Green Worship CD mommy listened to in the car all day AFTER her oldest daughter wanted to name a bunny, "Gold digger".

My First 10K

In October of 2009, I ran my first ever race since high school! I spent 3 months gearing up from my couch potato status until I was ready to run a 5K. I completed it in 34 minutes and 4 seconds. And feeling SO motivated after my race...

I stopped running for a year and a half.

It appears that I had to get back to the things I neglected for those 3 months of training, like mommy duty with the 5 month old son in the house and the school year kicking in!

But time marches on and in January of 2011, I decided to start running again so that I could complete another 5K.

But I let a friend talk me into something completely nuts...

a 10K

Yes, that means I decided to become one of the nutty people that would willingly run for about an hour.

So I spent the last few months gearing up for the 10K, running 3 times a week. One particular Saturday I pushed myself and completed a 5 mile run. My feet were burning and my toes hurt.

Suddenly, the 10K didn't seem like such a good idea. In fact, after that 5 mile run, I decided to only run 3.5 miles max.

Until today.

Today, I had to race the 10K.

Admittedly I was a bit nervous about the burning feet issue. And, as expected, around the 4.5 mile mark, the toes began to hurt. But I pressed on and finished the race.

I completed the 6.2 mile run in 1 hour, 3 mins, and 02 seconds.

At the end of the race, my father, husband, and kiddos came to cheer me on to the finish.

Wanting to acknowledge their presence, I waved at them.

And that is the only shot of my running. The one where I am waving at the camera.

I look like such a pro, don't I?

Lovely.

My children are participating in an Easter Egg Hunt with some friends this week. They have to write clues about themselves to put in the eggs for a little "get to know you better" game.

I had them each list 7 clues about themselves and thought it was cute "Tiny Talk" to see what they said about themselves:

K (age 8)...
loves to read
loves to play piano
is adventurous
loves to cook
likes the "How to train your dragon" series
is a helpful person

T (age 6)...
wants a violin
hates to go to bed
likes peanut butter and jelly
wishes she could cook
likes penguins
doesn't have a favorite book
likes the pool

D (age 4)...
loves to play computer
loves to go to sleep
likes bunnies
is 4 years old
has a favorite book, "Fish out of Water", which he calls the "Otto" book
likes to wear shirts
plays with his targets and guns

AND...it was cute to see what the "older three" had to say for their little brother...

C (age 22 months)...
is cute
takes naps
we love him
drools a lot
likes to knock things down
is whiny and arguing
likes to play in the sink

While describing C, his big brother, D, said, "I love you". (he was "saying" it to C as a clue) Cute stuff!

You’d think we weren’t feeding him

Dear C (age 22 months),
We give you a plate of food at dinner each night.

It contains EXACTLY the same food that is on my plate, your father's plate, and the plates of your siblings.

But for some reason, you INSIST on eating off of MY plate..

IMG_4732

Though, there are times you determine that the serving bowl will do.

IMG_4898IMG_4899

But typically it is my plate that occupies your little fork. We see it happen almost every night.

It begins with "that look", as if my food is so radically different than yours...

IMG_4919

and we know what comes next...

IMG_4922

Somehow you ended up with TWO servings of ice cream cake...

IMG_4923

I think I am on to you.

Love,
Mommy

The Cat turns 4

Dear D,

Well, quite some time ago, in January to be exact, you turned four years old.

IMG_3811Wow.  Four.

That’s big.

Is my little boy REALLY four?

Yes.  He is.

And I want to take a moment to let you know how much we enjoyed your special day and how much we enjoy YOU!

You were such a happy guy during your party.  Everything about the celebration was exciting to you!

You were so excited to get the “number 4” balloon!  You picked some pretty random colors to with it, including your favorite color, red.

Now…for months, you have called yourself, “The Cat”.  This nickname is due to your stuffed animal, “Baby Cat”.  You adore your stuffed cat, so you adopted his character as your own.

IMG_3806

Of course, that made a perfect “theme” for your birthday cake.  And you were delighted!

IMG_3810

IMG_3825IMG_3820

Opening gifts was such fun!  You have such wonderful expressions and showed your delight with each present.

IMG_3830

Of course, another special stuffed animal was given to you…a Bunny.  You like your bunny, but he hasn’t replaced, “Baby Cat”.

IMG_3837

You look like such a big boy on your new bike.

IMG_3852

The most fascinating and crazy gift of the day goes to the gun and target set that Grandma found.

I asked your Grandmother to get you a toy gun.  In my opinion, every boy should have a toy gun!

IMG_3850She shopped and shopped and could not find one!

Finally, she ended up coming across the Wild West Gunslinger Gun and Target set hidden in a clearance section at Target.  It was marked down to $5!

Of course, she wasn’t quite sure about this silly looking thing, but for $5, she grabbed it.

After setting it all up and filling the guns and targets with batteries, my father played with it for over an hour.

She knew she had a hit.  And boy was she correct!

IMG_3853

Yep, the big boys liked it too!  Your daddy and grandfather were having a good time with the targets.

IMG_3857

Basically, this gun uses some sort of infrared so that when you aim it at the targets and pull the trigger, the targets make a sound and “fall down”.  (The top part falls backwards and then pops back up a few seconds later)

 IMG_3862

It really is quite fun!

But more fun than playing it was watching you have such a great time with it!

IMG_3849

Four is a great age!  It is so fun to include you in with the “older kids” these days!  You are a delight to our family and I am so thankful for you.

I love you little guy!

Love,

Mommy
