Precious Friendships

Growing up, my best friend, Carly, lived next door.

The grass between our houses was worn down into a dirt path, trampled by our feet day in and day out. In fact, we used to tease our parents and tell them that they should just build a sidewalk there. Afterall, the grass didn't stand a chance with the two of us.

This morning, I woke and took a look at the 30-some inches of snow outside. And in the midst of it, I saw this...

Yep. A path to the house of the little girl who lives across the street. It was the only walkable area in the road. And clearly, it took some determination and lots of little feet trudging back and forth to create such a parting in the snow.

As they grow up may their friendship be just as precious to them as Carly and mine was to us.

I never had a best friend growing up. It seemed that the friend changed each year and in my neighbor hood there was a couple of girls my age, but I could not break their bond to be included.

I'm so thankful my oldest had her best friend sleeping right in the same room with her.

They have not seen one another since July. They are going to get an afternoon together in Texas in two weeks. I'm smiling to think of their lunch together and car ride to Alicia's destination. I wish I could be a fly on the wall. Oh, and baby sister is able to be there, too!!!!
