Mr. Froggie

All three of my children have little stuffed frogs that they play with. We have received them throughout the years and recently they each adopted one as "their own". They spent at least a good week playing "froggies" every morning.

D (age 2), in particular, was quite attached and took his frog to bed nightly. This was the first stuffed toy he has shown any preference for.

Then disaster hit.

The kids decided to play with their froggies one morning and David couldn't find his.

Devestation.

We spent the better part of the morning searching the bedroom, the bathrooms, the toy chest, the sofa, and every nook and cranny in the house.

No luck. The frog was not to be found. So we moved on and began playing Play-doh in an effort to distract him. K (age 7) had run off to another room to work on a project. I went to check on her and she excitedly showed me that she had made a replacement frog for D! She had drawn, colored, and cut out a frog. Then she even went so far as to cover the back with foamies so that it would be "soft" for him.

My heart melted. God has truly blessed this child with a beautiful and compassionate heart.

And then her sensitive little sister followed suit. She made him a frog out of yarn and tape. She called it the baby frog.

While I was so touched by what they had done, I was also terrified because I had absolutely no idea how this two year old little guy was going to react. Afterall, he was so upset about his frog and these replacements were thoughtful, but nothing like the real stuffed animal.

I prayed silently for the situation as K presented her frog to D.

"Look D, I made you a froggie"

At that moment, God filled little D's heart with overwhelming graciousness and he just hugged and kissed that paper frog.

Then T gave him her yarn frog. His reaction was exactly the same. Then he ran to show them both to me.

Look mommy, Kay-ee and Tisha made me frogs!

And I was reminded that I have a front seat to the work of the Holy Spirit everyday!

Thank you Lord for what you are doing in the lives of these children. I am so grateful for each of them and their relationships with one another. Please continue to be in the midst of those relationships as they grow up.

Thank you for the spiritual gifts you are placing within each of their hearts. Guide me as their mother to bring out those gifts and encourage them so that they may be prepared for the work that You have planned for them.

Amen
